Ship Captain’s Studio

Renovating a space is not just about changing it physically; it’s about reimagining its purpose and potential. Take, for example, this modest room above the garage that we transformed into a guest space fit for a ship captain! The owner, who travels to Marion on business and rents the main house to another family, loves boats and wanted a space that felt like living on a ship.

The studio includes a small kitchenette, bathroom, closet, and separate entry and balcony. After adding two small dormers, we custom-designed every inch of the space including the cabinetry and built-in furniture with plenty of storage solutions. Brass fittings and incredible woodwork by Mike Isabelle throughout, including a hand-carved newel post and custom-built stair lighting, grace this studio making it a fun folly for our would-be ship captain!
